Zapata County Chamber of Commerce

Wears A Variety of Hats

Everyone knows that the Zapata County Chamber of Commerce is located at 601 U.S. Highway 83, but did you know that our office also houses the Zapata County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.  Every day the staff here may change hats many times to meet the needs of each of these important entities.  Because the goals of these entities are the same, the economic, social, and environmental growth of Zapata County and its citizen’s, as well as promotion of the area and tourism development, each entity also has specific missions and responsibilities.

The Chamber of Commerce membership is comprised of local & area business owners, organizations, and individuals who are interested in promoting Zapata’s economic growth.  It is governed by an elected Board of Director’s and funded by membership dues & grants. The Chamber supports its members through advertising and promotions to increase their business and educational & training programs.  Each day we receive requests for referrals and Chamber members are always promoted.

Another function of the Chamber of Commerce is the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB), which is funded by a portion of the Hotel/Motel Occupancy Tax collected each year in Zapata County, and is awarded by the Zapata County Commissioner’s Court to the Chamber to be used for CVB activities. The job of the CVB is to market and promote tourism activity, overnight stay of visitors to Zapata County, which also has a positive economic impact by generating added business to other Zapata businesses. Each year, the Chamber through the CVB hosts a number of fishing tournaments, outdoor recreation events, conventions, business conferences and community events.
